Softball for a Cure – Raising money for Colorado cancer patients
Softball for a Cure is a now annual softball tournament held in Boulder, Colorado. For one weekend each year community members gather with friends and family at the Stazio Ballfields to raise money for the Boulder Community Hospital Cancer Research Foundation. Additional beneficiaries for this year include local cancer patients Stephanie McKeehan, Tressa Pojar and youngster Noah Hoffer.
Five years ago long time softball player Heidi Muller was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her best friend, Isabelle “Izzy” Crouse decided to throw a softball benefit tournament in her honor to help her through the tough times ahead. This was familiar territory for Izzy, as she had organized her first softball tournament for an ill cousin just three years earlier. When Heidi was diagnosed Izzy knew just what to do. Each year the tournament sees increased participation from the community, including donations from many local families and businesses.
Softball for a Cure 2012
This year the tournament is going to be held on Saturday, August 11th and Sunday, August 12th at the Stazio Ballfields. Currently there are 56 registered teams which will bring in 600+ players, volunteers and spectators over the course of the two day tournament. Last year the tournament raised over $8,000 after expenses, and this year looks to be even more promising.
In addition to the softball action from the 56+ teams who will be competing, Izzy and her team of volunteers have coordinated additional entertainment for spectators, friends and those who just want to come out and support the cause. This year a kickball tournament and a home run derby have been added, as well as a donation driven raffle with a variety of prizes.
Lunch as well as beer and other beverages will be provided by sponsors in exchange for a small suggested donation. While you are enjoying the lunch break from 11:30am-1:30pm each day there will be live music provided by blue grass bands Hezekiah Goode and The Dodge City Sodbusters on Saturday and the Westwind Connection on Sunday.

Fisher Auto is Proud to Sponsor the EXPAND Duck Race at the 2012 Boulder Creek Fest
The Boulder Creek Festival is almost here! So is the Great Rubber Duck Race!
It’s almost Memorial Day Weekend and we are ready to watch thousands of bright yellow rubber ducks float down the Boulder Creek. The Duck Race is put on by the City of Boulder Parks and Recreation Department as a primary fundraiser for EXPAND. Little rubber ducks will be available for sponsor at “Duck Booths” located throughout the festival grounds during the weekend of the Boulder Creek Fest. You may also sign up in advance at any of the Boulder Rec Centers. If you can’t make it to the Duck Race this year, you can sponsor ducks online!
EXPAND stands for Exciting Programs Adventures and New Dimensions. The program helps those with disabilities, mild traumatic brain injuries, or neurological conditions increase their overall quality of life. By providing access to specialized programs and activities like unified sports teams, Special Olympics training, adaptive water-skiing and kayaking on the Boulder Reservoir, and coaching for wheelchair racing EXPAND has been able to increase many people’s overall well-being. The EXPAND program offers people with disabilities the opportunity to make new friends, learn new skills, improve fitness, develop self-confidence, improve social skills and HAVE FUN!
2012 is the third consecutive year that Fisher Auto has sponsored the Duck Race. Past proceeds from the Duck Race have gone to offer scholarships, summer camps and purchase adaptive equipment such as water-skis, bikes, sport wheelchairs, a lift van, and much more, which is why it’s such an important event.
The Duck Race Finish Line is near the Boulder Public Library. Line up around the creek!
The race will begin at 4pm as the little ducklings are released into the Boulder Creek waters at the 9th Street Bridge. The ducks will float about a quarter mile until they reach the Peace Garden near the Boulder Public Library Parking lot.
The sponsor of the first duck to float across the finish line will win the grand prize of an all-inclusive 3 night stay in Cancun with airfare from Denver courtesy of Doris Mundy Travel, Apple Vacations and Dreams Resort and Spa. Second prize is $1,000 cash provided by Fisher Kia & Honda of Boulder, and third prize is a nine-month Self Defense Package from Boulder Quest Center. If your duck does not win the top three prizes, don’t worry, there are almost eighty more prizes from local sponsors.
We at Fisher Honda Kia want to thank Boulder Parks and Recreation for giving us the opportunity to sponsor a great program like EXPAND. We are proud to support the community and hope you will too by purchasing ducks to benefit this great local cause. Would you like a chance to win an “2012 EXPAND Duck Race” t-shirt? If so, we invite you to join us on Facebook and other social media sites to see our current contests and giveaways. We wish you a safe and fun Memorial Day weekend and hope your duck wins the race!
April 2012 Diaper Drive for DenUM at Fisher Auto and Frisk Accessories in Boulder, CO
The Diaper Drive has begun!
It actually started three days ago, on April 1st, 2012!
Fisher Auto and Frisk Accessories in Boulder, Colorado have partnered to collect diapers for the nonprofit group, Denver Urban Ministries (DenUM). We want to double the amount of diapers collected for the mothers of homeless babies this year.
Last year, Frisk Accessories collected 5,500 diaper donations. Can you help them double that amount this year? Frisk’s donation was the single largest DenUM received last year!
The Diaper Drive Ends on Mother’s Day 2012!
If you were in need, wouldn’t receiving diapers (which are expensive!) be a great gift?
We think so!
Please help us to collect diapers by dropping them off in the Fisher Auto showroom. Our showroom is located at:
